Movie Going for One
August 02, 2008
Sitting alone in a movie theatre I watch as couples come in with their boxes of popcorn and years of watching movies together stretching out behind them and ahead of them, as is my sitting alone at the movies. But it is better than to be sitting at home, wishing I had someone to go with; I have myself to go with, and that is more than I had before.
* * *
That was brave. I don't think I have ever been to a movie on my own.
Hey, thanks for stopping by my blog. I have been worried about you over in Rebellious Woman for a while.

There is absolutely no reason to miss the escapism of the Sex and the City movie just because you have no one to see it with! And you know what, no one's looking at you. That's one of the things I learned about dressing for work as a teacher: no one's really looking at me, they're looking at each other. Same thing in the movie theatre. I guess the only problem now is that there don't seem to be any movies worth going to.
Duchess, thanks for the concern.

Doing things alone can be quite empowering..... just to know that life can be enjoyable by yourself..... it does not always have to be about someone else and should not always be about someone else.

DI, I'm still waiting for a movie to see. Every couple of weeks I go out to my favorite diner for lunch or dinner, there is no denying that pleasure. A meal I did not prepare and do not have to clean up after, a good book, and no interruptions except to fill my cup, why would someone deny herself that pleasure?
