Heh, this is a hard one for me. I guess I'm always struggling to keep the respect of my oldest son, which isn't easy when they hit teenagehood. ;)

goodfather, one of the best pieces of advice that I read about surviving a teen said that you should not lose who you are, that you should always maintain yourself and your self-respect in your dealings with said aggravating teen. We are, afterall, supposed to be a beacon to them even as they say the things they say. And while I do think it has helped with the girls ("look even though I am horrible to her she is still caring and loving") it certainly has helped me maintain my own self-respect.

I get totally stupid and inept when I try to earn someone's respect. Now, I just try to keep my own!

April, I wish I could abide by that, but invariably there's someone who I want to say to me "you're wonderful" (and not just my own voice in my head).
