Sprinkling of Vindication
December 29, 2008
As a counter to the guys who do the internet dating equivalent of hanging up on me when they see my picture, today someone called me "radiantly beautiful." Yes, I know, I'm not supposed to be thinking about a relationship while I'm still living in this absurd situation, but the desire to be desired comes and goes in cycles, and this one hasn't worked its way out yet.
Riley's the love of my life right now because she told me that I'm so skinny, I don't need to work out! I love that little girl!

April, write down what she says so that when she is 13 and says to you in one week that "you look short" and "you need to dye your hair" you'll be able to remember what she REALLY thinks of you. Daughters. Lovely lovely little women, even when they tell the truth as they see it.

oh my god, I LOVE this! I was just considering getting myself online in the dating world as well, and knowing I can come here and commiserate (and rejoice!) with you, what a feeling!

D'Arcy, before you get too excited about on-line dating, I suggest you read some of my posts on Looking for Love. You need to prepare yourself for some "intesting" adventures.

Life is in the small things!! My sister used to get sooo annoyed me because I would just be elated if a guy I really liked would call, but sometimes a little external validation goes a long way.

Liz, it's especially important when you have in your head--or still in the house--words reverberating that do nothing but dash whatever confidence you have managed to attain. We are not islands, nor do I want to be one, although I thought I did for too long (perhaps because of those words).

Everyone needs encouragement and validation. Forget the jerks who can't see the the beauty that lies inside. When the time is right you will meet someone who adores you.

Laura, that sounds like an ego boost. What a nice thing to say. Hopefully you can carry that one around with you for a while and remind yourself just what a catch you are. Remember, you are the trophy!

Stepping Thru, since then I have gotten some lovely ego strokes. Even the lovely "you are beautiful inside and out," now that surely needs to resonate more than the virtual clicks.
JC, us trophy women, we shine even in the muck.
