Because they needed me to love them, as much as I needed to give it.
Best Wishes

Because they first loved me - ME, with all my faults, my quirks, my not so nice side; they loved me anyway, making me feel like a person of merit. I counted in their lives and many of the same people remain my most ardent cheerleaders to this day. I would not be who I am without them and, over the years, I hope I have given in return at least a fraction of what they have given me.

Often, something (I don't know what) will cause me to reflect on a past love and wonder, "What was I thinking?" I recognize the dysfunction of certain relationships now (hindsight is great). I don't believe by any stretch of the imagination, though, that I am able to recognize the dysfunction in my current relationship - for even the best of relationships have some dysfunctions.
I appease myself by saying that I am evolving - that my relationships grow healthier as I grow healthier.
To answer the question, the reason I loved those whom I did was that they filled a need I had at the time. Different needs at different times, some uplifting, too many destructive.
